Stand on the hills above our farm when a storm is coming in.

Watch the sky change over the Brecon Beacons. The light goes first, then the air shifts, heavy and electric, and the landscape becomes something altogether wilder. It happens fast up here. And it is, in its way, magnificent.

That is what we were trying to put in a bottle.

The making of it

Stormy Gin is a gin of two characters, and that was entirely deliberate. The botanicals were chosen in pairs, almost. Orange, lemon and grapefruit for the brightness — the moment before the rain arrives, when everything is vivid and clean. Then pink peppercorn, liquorice root and wild sunflower root for the depth underneath, the rumble behind the hills, the thing that gives the storm its weight.

Meadowsweet, bilberry, angelica root, orris root and coriander seed move between the two, holding it all together.

It is distilled, as all our gins are, with mineral-rich water hand-collected from the Dan yr Ogof cave system beneath the Beacons. Water that has spent years moving slowly through the rock above, taking on the minerals of the landscape as it goes. By the time we collect it, it carries something of this place in every drop.

What you will find in the glass

The World Gin Awards found it crisp on the nose, with zesty orange and grapefruit leading. Silky on the palate, they noted, with subtle sweetness, clean and creamy and elegant, fresh citrus running all the way through.

Lift the glass and sweet orange arrives first, bilberry close behind, with a quiet suggestion of pink peppercorn just beneath the surface. On the palate the citrus opens fully, joined by fine marmalade, earthy angelica and the gentle sweetness of meadowsweet. Then, right at the end, the peppercorn arrives. Warm, unhurried, lasting.

The storm passing. That feeling after, when the air is clean and the hills are bright again.

Craft Gin Club chose Stormy as their Gin of the Month in January 2024. For a gin inspired by Welsh weather, we thought that felt right.

The details

  • 70cl · 40% ABV
  • Distilled with mineral-rich cave water, hand-collected from Dan yr Ogof
  • Botanicals: juniper, coriander seed, sweet orange ribbon, lemon ribbon, grapefruit peel, liquorice root, wild sunflower root, angelica root, orris root, meadowsweet, bilberry and pink peppercorn
  • Small batch, crafted on our family farm in Crai, Brecon Beacons
  • Craft Gin Club Gin of the Month, January 2024

How to drink it

With a premium Mediterranean tonic over plenty of ice, and a generous squeeze of fresh lime. The citrus cuts straight through the peppercorn warmth and opens the gin up beautifully.

If you are feeling adventurous, add a few cracked pink peppercorns on top. They draw out the spice already in the gin and give it another layer entirely. Or, if you want the storm to linger a little longer, a pinch of chilli flakes or a slice of fresh chilli will do exactly that. Bold, warming and not for the faint-hearted, which, given the inspiration, feels about right.

      What Customers Are Saying

"This gin is a breath of fresh air! Gorgeous bottle but even better flavour. We ordered both the original dry gin and the cave aged and we love both. Will be purchasing both again as they have nearly run out!"

      Emily H

      "Delicious locally produced gin!
This gin is a real treat, very smooth and drinkable with a subtle botanical flavour. The cave aged gin is perfect straight, on ice.

I am enjoying a glass of this right now and felt moved to review it because if you’re googling Cascave and reading this then perhaps you’re wondering whether or not to make a purchase and I want you to share the joy - get hold of some Cascave and treat yourself. You won’t regret it and you’ll be recommending it to every other true gin lover."

      Bridget Gingerlilly

"I love this gin! I tried and bought both the Premium Dry and Cave Aged Gin on our holidays last year and restocked on our visit to the Brecon Beacons this year - can’t wait to open my bottle of Stormy Gin. Amazing family story and it was great to be able to visit the Dan Yr Ogof caves nearby. I love sitting with a G&T in the evenings thinking back on our lovely holidays."

      Laura Shaw

"Absolutely love the Cave and Cask Aged Gin! The rich, oaky flavour and smooth finish make it stand out from any other gin I’ve tried. It’s my go to drink and a favourite gift for friends who love Gin. Its quite impressive and always impresses. Try it once and youll be sold."

      Wayne Evans

"I ordered two mini (although they are actually quite big) bottles of their gin and a branded glass for a corporate gift. What a special gift. Beautiful packaging and the story of how the gin is made is like a fairytale. I tried some samples in John Lewis and I haven’t tasted gin like it before. It’s stunning. This is a fabulous Welsh business."
